resolvingz

I would love to say that I'm one of those folks that never, ever uses plastic bags. I'd love to say it but I can't. I have a collection of those dudes hanging out in my laundry room waiting to be filled with cat waste. It's like the give-a-penny-take-a-penny bin at the local 7-11 - it'll never be empty unless I start trying to do something different. Once all the bags are gone, I'm gonna be bagging up poop in biobags, I promise.

I just bought some reusable, washable food sacks on Etsy in hopes of never using plastic bags again. They're washable and light and can easily be carried around in anticipation of a trip to the local grocer. Yeah, two bucks for a bag costs more than the free one at the store, but I am more than happy to set out some cash knowing that I am doing something positive.

The other plan is to begin tossing all food waste into the green bin. Keep in mind that this is limited to items that can be composted - I'm not going to be tossing in uneaten nachos. Things like orange peels, carrot scraps, lettuce past its prime. It shouldn't be hard at all and it should mean that I put almost nothing in the trash bins. I already to a very, very good job with recycling thanks to my overpriced trash can.

Gotta start somewhere...

in the begining

I guess there is yet another person on the foodie bandwagon. I know there are a bunch of us, and we're all doing the same thing but I'' try to make things slightly different.

I have been a vegetarian for almost half of my life. Most of those years were spent eating fairly typical stuff (countless bean burritos, too many grilled cheese sandwiches, etc). recently I'
ve gotten my act together; I've rekindled my love of cooking, I've started buying a heap of veg cookbooks and I've moved.

Right, the moving part. Doesn't make much sense to you? Orange County, C
alifornia. It's ok, only ok for those trying to make different decisions about their diet. It's typical vegetarian faire. Nothing too good, nothing too terrible. But los angeles, that's a whole different ball game. You want to eat all raw, all the time? easy... or maybe easier. Vegan food is all over the place up here. I blame (or is it thank?) the Southern California obsession with what you look like slash what you look like to others. That whole thing.

Here's the plan: i have a huge resource of vegetarian cookbooks and recipes that I
'll be combing for really great meals. some will be easier than others, obviously. then I'll be attempting to dole out some life lessons regarding where to go and what to eat in the greater Los Angeles area. Maybe a tossing in of other hippie Earth shit - gotta be as cliche as possible, you know.
